Air Conditioning versus Air Quality

The more you rely on air conditioning for your home comfort, the more you should be aware of the role it may play in the quality of the air you breathe. Depending on the condition and effectiveness of your AC unit or system, it could be contributing to improved air quality or, conversely, it could be contributing to increased air contamination. To help ensure that your home’s air conditioning operates efficiently and effectively, replace or clean your AC air filter(s) before operating, and inspect its vents and surfaces – inside and out – to remove dust or mould accumulation. Be mindful that AC units rely on chemicals to operate efficiently, so consult your manual or an authorized service agent if you suspect any leakage.

Finally, if your unit or system is working day after day, look for a cool spell to give it a rest and allow some fresh air into your home, rather than relying on treated air all season.
